Richard Simpson
I've been serious about art since 10th grade, when I started sketching abstract drawings. My English teacher saw one of my art projects and encouraged me to try working on canvas. I didn’t start using canvas until after I graduated, but I remember my late dad always persuading me to follow what felt right.
I create abstract pieces of unusual things, mixing contemporary pop culture with texture mediums. I mostly do portraits, landscapes, and things that are out of the ordinary. My art is a way to express my thoughts and feelings, spreading messages of unity, inclusion, and hope—hope is what keeps me going.
I use materials like old magazines, string, cut-up cloth, stencils, and rocks, layering them with acrylic paint and glue on a gessoed canvas. With a palette knife, I scrape through multiple colors to create my pieces. Inclusion, hope, and freedom of expression mean the most to me. As someone who was bullied for being different, I want to show people they’re not alone. I believe in second chances and that if I can turn the world upside down with my art, others can find the courage to do the same.
I’m inspired by artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, Pollock, and Dali, along with nature, movies, and current events. Art has given me a voice I didn’t know I had, and I hope my work helps others find theirs too.

Taylor Brooke
Coloring the World with Passion, Purpose, and Paint!
I just want you all to know the artist behind the art. Hey y'all, I'm Taylor Brooke. I share my job adventures as an artist, whether it's canvas, murals, or anything I can land a paintbrush on.
I was born in Denison but moved around a lot growing up, all across Texas and Oklahoma. My childhood was anything but easy. I grew up in the bars, something people might look down on, but back then, those places were full of the most wholesome, silly folks you'd ever meet. My mom was and still is a bartender here in Denison, and has been since I was 4 (I'm 30 now, btw)! She has some wild stories, y'all. I love that woman so much. Being a single momma of 3 at the time, she did what she could with the cards she was given. One strong woman.
Being the middle child of three, I went through a lot I'd rather not revisit. We all did. I know we all have events we don't want to share. My teen years took a rough turn. I walked a dark road, and though I met some incredible people, I also met addiction. Four years in the grip of it. Everything changed the moment I found out I was pregnant with my son. I quit cold turkey, right then and there, and I never looked back. Now, I'm damn near 13 years sober.
Today, I'm a momma of two amazing kids, two dogs, and a cat. I'm a fiancée, a business owner, and a passionate advocate for child abuse awareness and drug abuse awareness. I speak from experience, because I've seen the darkest days. But I use that darkness, those mistakes, and my passion to fuel my dreams.
I've always loved art, especially fantasy, medieval themes, and cherry blossoms, my absolute favorite. I was born March 1st, right at the start of cherry blossom season, and I think that's why they mean so much to me. This is my second year as a professional artist, and I'm honestly blown away by the love and support I've received.
I owe so much to my better half, my fiancé. He has pushed me when I feel down or falling into depression again. He stays up late helping me on my projects. He has never failed me. He is my rock. I try my best to give back to the community that's given me so much. I appreciate every single one of you. I hope you enjoy following my journey. The purchases, the following, comments, likes, all of it—especially those sweet messages I get about my work. I appreciate you all so, so, so, so much.
Just remember, you can overcome the darkness, because you are the light.

Aaron Bucy
Aaron Bucy's artistic journey is nothing short of inspiring. A testament to the enduring power of creativity. Originally from East Texas, Aaron is a self-taught artist who began his journey with pencil drawings during high school. He even served as the comic artist for his school newspaper, The Drumbeat.
"In my younger years, I primarily worked with colored pencils, but I wanted to create something on canvas that felt more 'legitimate.' To me, oil paint has the distinction of being the medium associated with masterpieces by artists like Leonardo and other works found in old-world museums," Aaron shares.
After a 28-year hiatus, Aaron has reignited his passion for art, diving into oil on canvas. His minimalist portraits have captivated many, and he has exciting plans to expand into Texas-themed landscapes and explore the world of abstract art.
Achievements
Winner of the Art That Speaks to Me award at our first Macabre Art Show for El Grito.
Honorable mention from the State Fair of Texas Art Show.
Beyond his art, Aaron is also deeply involved in the community and serves on multiple boards, including:
Sherman Main Street
Sherman Museum
Sherman Chamber of Commerce

Barb Stewart
Barb has been an artist her entire life, growing up in the western suburbs of Chicago. She holds an AA degree, a Digital Prepress Production Certificate, and earned her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she majored in Ceramics and Textile Design.
After relocating to Denison, Texas in 2015, Barb continued her path as a self-employed artist and dedicated arts volunteer. She served on the Denison Arts Council from 2016–2021, including two years as President, and coordinated the City of Denison’s Dia de Muertos Festival during her tenure. Her service also includes work with Denison’s Main Street Advisory Board, the Main Street Design Committee, and the Doc Holliday Committee.
Her creative work spans found-object assemblages, paintings, photography, sculpture, and her signature Abandoned Art Photography. Barb’s process centers on blending techniques to create pieces that feel both challenging and organic. Since then, she has shared this early art form at markets, festivals, and events including the Dallas Arboretum and the State Fair of Texas. Valerie Fox
Born and raised in Sherman, Texas, Valerie discovered her love for creating at an early age. As a child, she was often surrounded by a joyful mix of traditional and unconventional art supplies, drawing, painting, and collaging her way into a lifelong passion for making.
Valerie is drawn to mixed media, creating pieces that blend emotion, memory, and found materials. Much of her inspiration comes from her inner world, though a brief moment in nature or a quirky object discovered by chance can spark an entire project.
Most days, you’ll find Valerie working in her home studio, surrounded by paints, canvases, beads, and an ever-growing collection of “I’ll use this someday” treasures. She’s at her happiest when she’s bringing new projects to life or laughing at the beautiful creative chaos that fuels her process.

Jen Nowalk
My name is Jen Nowalk. I currently live in Denison, Texas, but I was raised in Colorado. I grew up surrounded by art. Most of the women in my family were talented artists, and so was my father. My parents always encouraged me to be creative and dream big.
My work consists of many different materials and media, often using odds and ends I find around me. I’m always searching for new textures, patterns, and designs. I don’t like to limit myself. Everything is art to me: lines, curves, colors. I’m especially inspired by artwork from different cultures, each one telling its own beautiful story.
I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for details. Sometimes I have to remind myself not to overwork a piece when I’m aiming for a simpler outcome. I love painting for friends, whether it’s from a photo they share or an idea they want brought to life. I can draw most anything I see, and I enjoy challenging myself by painting scenes that come straight from my imagination.
My hope is to help people express themselves through my art or encourage them to express their own thoughts, dreams, and ideas without limits. Because at the end of the day, everything is beautiful art.

Patricia Taylor
Patricia Taylor is a firecracker of creativity, and inspiration. A woman who brings color to every room she walks into. Her style is like a good Southern gumbo: a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a whole lot of heart.
Born into a family of natural creatives, Patricia grew up surrounded by art, but it was a few years ago when that spark fully ignited again. In May 2014, she painted a dove so striking and soulful it became a turning point, the moment she realized painting wasn’t just something she enjoyed. It was something she needed.
For Patricia, creating isn’t a pastime. It’s breath, movement, and the thing that makes her soul sing. Every brushstroke carries her sense of adventure, her reverence for beauty, and her belief that art should move you, deeply and honestly.
Her work has been showcased in respected spaces throughout East Texas, including the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas, Tyler Junior College, Gold Leaf Art Gallery, the Tyler Rose Parade, and Palestine Regional Hospital. Each exhibition has carried her signature style: spirited, bold, and unmistakably hers.
Patricia continues to follow her creative path with courage and joy, proving that when passion calls, you answer and you answer with everything you’ve got.
